CCTV captures a Russian shell striking a market in a city in eastern Ukraine. At least 16 people were killed and 28 more wounded in the attack in Kostiantynivka on Wednesday 6 September. Twenty shops, power lines, an administrative building and the floor of an apartment building were damaged, according to the prosecutor general’s office. Emergency service workers extinguished the fire that damaged pavilions at the outdoor market and crews searched the rubble for any trapped civilians. Ukrainian forces claim to have destroyed a warehouse of military equipment used by Russian occupiers with a drone strike in the Donetsk region. Footage shows the moment of the strike, with smoke rising from the site close to Myronivskyi, a town about 15 miles southeast of Bakhmut. “Around 14:30pm, the Armed Forces of Ukraine destroyed a warehouse of military equipment of the occupiers near Myronivskyi, Donetsk region,” a social media post from the country’s strategic communications page read. The video was first posted by Serhiy Bratchuk, the spokesman for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army in the south of the country.

Water gushed down a downtown road on the Greek island of Skiathos on Tuesday evening (5 September) as torrential rain and flooding hit the country. Police have ordered all residents and tourists to stay off the streets and the island’s mayor has put in a request to declare a state of emergency, according to local media. Many holidaymakers on Skiathos were unable to get to the airport on Wednesday morning. Greek authorities said one man was killed in Volos, on the mainland, while another man was reported missing, believed to have been swept away by floodwaters.

Emergency service workers rescued a man trapped in a car by floods that hit Spain. The floods were caused by a slow-moving storm system, known as a depresión aislada en niveles altos (Dana). The rescue took place in Castelló province, with the car surrounded by waist-high flood water. Aerial footage shows a partially collapsed bridge over the Alberche river in Spain after torrential rain caused flash flooding across parts of the country. The Alberche runs through the provinces of Avila, Madrid and Toledo in central Spain, where emergency services were involved in almost 1,200 incidents in the region overnight. Helicopter footage of the collapsed structure was shared on social media by Madrid’s security and emergency agency on Monday morning (4 September). The sudden torrential rain that hit Spain transformed streets around the capital - as well as other coastal areas - into muddy rivers.

Ukraine's Ministry of Defence has released footage of a soldier appearing to use a drone to shoot at a Russian truck. This clip, posted on Twitter/X on Wednesday (30 August), purportedly shows a border guard from the "Steel Border" unit watching on as a shot hits the vehicle. "The hand of a master," Ukraine's Ministry of Defence said. The release of the footage came as UK officials said Vladimir Putin faces the largest attack on Russia since the start of the war after it was hit by five separate drone strikes overnight on 29 and 30 August.

Footage shows fierce winds hitting Mallorca as a P&O cruise ship collided with a freight vessel on Sunday, 27 August. The ship, which was carrying thousands of British holidaymakers, collided with a petrol tanker after it broke free of its moorings during a storm. A small number of people are injured, the cruise operator confirmed. “P&O Cruises Britannia was involved in a weather-related incident while alongside in Palma de Mallorca. Russian president Vladimir Putin was seen at a concert as reports circulated that Wagner chief Yevgeny Prigozhin was on a plane that crashed near Moscow, killing everyone onboard. Footage showed Putin at an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Soviet troops’ victory in the Battle of Kursk during World War II. Russian officials have said Prigozhin - who led an attempted coup in Russia in June - was on a private jet that crashed in the Tver region on 23 August. The Russian news agency TASS reported that ten people died in the crash.

Spanish law enforcement officers have intercepted a boat carrying 1,543 pounds (700kg) of cocaine off the coast of the Canary Islands, police said on Tuesday (22 August). Four suspects were arrested. They were part of a wider criminal organisation in charge of trying to smuggle large amounts of cocaine from South America into Europe, police said. The joint operation to arrest the suspects, which began in 2022, was led by the Spanish Guardia Civil and Europol, also involved Croatian and Serbian police as well as investigators from Palermo in Italy.

Ukrainian troops evacuated residents trapped in the southeastern village of Robotyne, in Zaporizhzhia region, on Tuesday (22 August) according to the country's defence ministry. Soldiers from the 47th Separate Mechanized Brigade used US-made Bradley tanks to rescue civilians from the important regional rail hub occupied by Russia, Ukrainian officials said. Russian forces have been accused of continuously shelling Robotyne with artillery fire. Ukrainian troops entering the strategic southeastern village could be a potentially significant advance in its counteroffensive against Russian forces.

This is the moment people got stuck on a ride following the collapse of a mobile pool and diving platforms at Germany’s biggest theme park. Several people were injured in the accident on Monday at Europa-Park in Rust.
