xQc: Exploring origin and evolution of Kick streamer's gaming name

QUEBEC, CANADA: Felix Lengyel, known as xQc, embarked on his streaming journey at the tender age of 19, immersing himself in the popular MOBA game League of Legends by Riot Games. During this initial foray into the streaming world, he used the alias xQcLoL. However, as time passed, Felix went through various gamer tags before ultimately settling on his current name. He has captivated the streaming community as a rising star, garnering an impressive average viewership of 64K and ranking as the second most-watched channel on the platform.

Born on November 12, 1995, in Quebec, Canada, Lengyel has recently returned to his home country after residing in Los Angeles to pursue his streaming career. Many speculate that this decision was influenced by Canada's gambling laws, providing an intriguing backstory to his return.

Although xQc has made a name for himself internationally, his online alias is a nod to his roots. The first letter of his remarkable name, 'x,' is derived from the last letter of his first name, Felix. Growing up in Quebec, he developed fluency in French, which he sometimes showcases on his stream. It is his love for his home province that inspired the subsequent letters of his name. The abbreviation 'Qc' in xQc represents the province code for Quebec.

Initially, xQc's Twitch account was labeled xQcOW, with 'OW' signifying 'LOL,' an acronym for League of Legends, which he ardently played during his early streaming days. Intriguingly, the streamer accumulated seven banned accounts in the game due to his use of inflammatory language, resulting in permanent bans. However, it was with the release of Blizzard's competitive game Overwatch that xQc gained considerable recognition and popularity. Hence, the 'OW' in his previous name paid homage to his success in the Overwatch scene.

The Evolution of his name:

His esports journey commenced with participation in local league teams such as Q? and Denial eSports. As the announcement of the highly anticipated Overwatch League arrived, xQc's prospects of becoming a professional player looked promising. Eventually, on October 28, 2017, he was picked up by the prestigious Dallas Fuel.

However, xQc's time with the Dallas team was rather tumultuous. Following the team's early tournament defeat, he was accused of making offensive comments about rival players, which resulted in a suspension for a couple of matches. In March 2018, xQc found himself embroiled in controversy once again, leading to his departure from the team. This turn of events allowed him to shift his focus entirely to his streaming career, which he fondly remembers as some of his best moments. Perhaps due to nostalgia, he continued to cling to his well-known 'xQcOW' brand name for an extended period.

Yet, with his Overwatch days firmly in the past, xQc decided to embrace change. In May, he formally initiated the process of altering his name, bidding farewell to the 'OW' and opting for a simplified 'xQc.' This versatile streamer now engages his dedicated community with extended streams featuring an array of diverse games, including the ever-popular Slots.
