'Will of the voters? Crazy': George Takei's potshot at Ronna McDaniel and Donald Trump backfires spectacularly

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: George Takei's recent tweet on Ronna McDaniel, the chairwoman of the Republican Party, has backfired much to his own surprise.

The American actor, best known for his role as Hikaru Sulu in the television series Star Trek, criticized McDaniel on his X account for voicing her support for Donald Trump as their presidential nominee even if gets convicted of crime.

Takei is one of the prominent figures who have expressed his resentment of the Trump administration, especially during the pandemic when the former president termed covid as 'Chinese virus.'

However, this time, things have certainly not turned out the way the 86-year-old would have liked as his recent post on his social media account gained negative responses from a large number of his followers.

What did George Takei post on social media?

"GOP Party Chair Ronna McDaniel said the party would support Donald Trump as their presidential nominee even if a jury convicted of a crime, if their voters chose him," Takei tweeted.

He also added how the party and the members themselves have become amoral many years back. "Do you hear how crazy that sounds? Their party has lost all moral bearing years ago," he said.

Why is Donald Trump facing trial?

Donald Trump has been criminally indicted four times, and will have to attend a number of trials in 2024 as he runs again for the White House.

The 77-year-old is facing four criminal proceedings, including the federal court trial set for March in which he faces charges of attempting to defraud the federal government and obstructing Congress by knowingly spreading false claims of election fraud.

His unfounded claims that the 2020 vote was rigged triggered thousands of his supporters to storm the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, in a failed bid to block congressional certification of his defeat by Biden.

Internet reacts to George Takei's tweet

Following Takei's tweet, internet users have surprisingly backed McDaniel for her decision to support Trump even after being aware of his overwhelming legal problems.

One user opined, "First good thing Ronna McDaniel has done in recent memory to be honest." Another wrote, "Hey Georgie, I know you whack jobs want to deny 71 million Americans their vote. But Trump will be the next POTUS."

One asked, "So, the will of the voters? How crazy!" and another wrote, "It is critical that everybody understands the process of Central Banking. Once you do, you realize these charges against Trump are bullsh*t."
