GASTON COUNTY, NORTH CAROLINA: Prisha Mosley, a 25-year-old woman from North Carolina, is reportedly suing a team of doctors and medical professionals for allegedly putting her on testosterone at the age of 17 and surgically removing her breasts in the following years. Mosley claimed that she was supposedly "fast-tracked into transgender care for profit" as a teenager when all she needed was therapy, the Daily Mail reported.
Mosley filed the lawsuit at the Superior Court in Gaston County on Monday, July 17. She claimed that the doctors "lied" to her during the quick transitioning process. In the 53-page complaint, Mosley mentioned that the medical team falsely convinced her that testosterone injections would solve the mental health problems she was facing as a 17-year-old and make her "grow a penis." According to the Daily Mail, she is reportedly seeking financial damages.

Mosley is a 25-year-old woman from North Carolina, who is currently a student in Big Rapids, Michigan. She recently made news for suing doctors over allegedly putting her on testosterone at the age of 17 while she suffered from mental health issues and confusion. Mosley claimed that the doctors took part in brief consultations, with one lasting only for a few minutes, before suggesting cross-sex hormones and a double breast removal when she started seeking professional help for her mental health problems.
"They lied when they told Mosley she was actually a boy; they lied when they told her that injecting testosterone into her body would solve her numerous, profound mental and psychological health problems," her legal complaint read. "They lied by omission, withholding critical information from her about the long-term adverse health consequences and permanent damage these treatments would cause her, and failing to inform her of alternative courses of treatment for her psychological problems," it added.
Mosley reportedly discovered transgenderism on social media and began socially transitioning to being a boy at the age of 15, assuming that it would resolve her anorexia, anxiety, and depression, and help her recover from a sexual assault she endured when she was 14, the Daily Mail reported. The defendants "lied to and misled her into these treatments and procedures for the purpose of making money off of her and bolstering their credentials in the emerging field of so-called gender-affirming care," the complaint stated.
The now-25-year-old also mentioned that the treatment left her with irreversible scars, including a damaged vagina, pain in her neck and shoulders, a deep voice as well as body and facial hair. Mosley said that she might also be infertile and will no longer be able to breastfeed. Despite the challenges, Mosley decided to "detransition" and is currently living as a woman. She is also trying to raise $15,000 to fund the laser hair removal and breast reconstruction surgery that she believes would help in her detransitioning journey.
"I decided to file a lawsuit because more needs to be done," Mosley said in a statement to the publication. "Just talking isn't enough. People who do harm need to be held accountable. I want justice, and I want to stop this preventable tragedy from happening to anyone else," she added. Speaking to the Independent Women's Forum, Mosley revealed that she "mutilated" her body as a teen to stop herself from being suicidal.
"It didn’t work, and now I have horrible scars and traumatic memories on top of the traumatic memories," she told the forum. Mosley is currently seeking unspecified financial damages in the court case. She has also discovered that she could her problems through therapy. With her lawsuit, Mosley became the latest detransitioner to take legal action against doctors amid America's ongoing debate on transgender rights and the practice of conducting medical procedures, especially on children.
Who are named in Prisha Mosley's lawsuit?
Mosley's lawsuit mentions the name of plastic surgeon, Eric Emerson, the clinic he worked at called Piedmont Plastic Surgery and Dermatology, Gaston County, and counselor Brie Klein-Fowler as well as the clinic she worked at, known as Family Solutions. The complaint also mentions the name of Shana Gordon and the center she worked at called Tree of Life Counseling, and Dr Martha Perry, alongside the provider she worked through, known as Moses Cone Medical Services.
The defendants are all accused of various fraud charges, including civil conspiracy, medical malpractice, negligent infliction of emotional distress, and unfair and deceptive trade practices. The complaint mentions that De Perry diagnosed Mosley with a gender identity crisis in January 2015 after an 80-minute session and allegedly convinced her to take testosterone shots.
It further mentioned that Dr Perry's suggestion was over objections from Mosley's parents, who insisted that their daughter had other problems that needed to be treated. However, the other issues were reportedly sidelined from key medical decisions, the paperwork mentioned. In July 2015, counselor Gordon reportedly met Mosley for a few minutes and told her that "changing her body to look more like a boy's body would solve her many psychological and mental health problems," the paper alleged.
The lawsuit mentioned that Gorden then wrote a "boilerplate form letter that was riddled with inaccuracies and misrepresentations" that stated how Mosley was ready to begin sex hormone treatment. Dr Perry allegedly devised a treatment plan shortly after and said that Mosley "was undergoing male puberty and that as part of this process, she would grow a penis." The papers further claimed that Mosley, "did experience an enlarged clitoris, but that is not the penis she thought she would grow when Dr Perry told her she would grow one."
