Mantonia Duncan, a man from Kansas City, was arrested and charged with murder and other charges in the deadly shooting of his wife, Jami Duncan, in front of her child in her Kansas City home. He was arrested after allegedly turning up inebriated at a relative's house within an hour of the shooting. He was being held in the Jackson County jail as of Thursday, July 20 on a $100,000 bond.

The man "appeared to have an unknown medical issue," according to the detectives who filed the charges, and he was brought to the hospital rather than interrogated. His defense counsel was not listed in online court records as of Thursday.

Mantonia said he was 'going to prison'

The police spoke with a 911 caller who said she drove to Jami's home after hearing from Mantonia's brother that he had killed someone there. She claimed that after walking to the home, she attempted to enter and then contacted the police. As stated by another witness, Mantonia had mentioned quarreling with his wife about her recent move-in and his wife "trying to run the house." The witness informed police that the man was also discussing how he had "f**ked up" and was "going to prison."

Additionally, Jami's son was inside the residence and saw the shooting, the detectives were informed. The young child claimed in an interview at the Child Protective Center that he and his mother were in the kitchen when his stepfather barged in from the backyard and ordered her to "line up." According to court records, the youngster saw him shoot her three times before hiding in his bedroom closet so he would "not get killed."
