Who is Jadarrius Rose? Bodycam footage shows moment police dog brutally mauls truck driver during Ohio chase

COLUMBUS, OHIO: On July 4, Jadarrius Rose, a 23-year-old man from Ohio, was brutally mauled by a police dog following a long police chase across the city over a missing mud flap. A bodycam footage showing the incident was recently released online and showed the dog attacking the trucker shortly after the pursuit of a semi-tractor trailer driven by Rose came to an end. "Do not release the dog with his hands up," the State Police trooper could be heard saying on the video.

The clip provided by highway patrol showed Rose standing in front of the vehicle with raised hands while law enforcement officials approached him and asked him to get on the ground. Shortly after, the dog could be seen running towards Rose, who was on his knees, before biting and pulling him. Rose could be heard screaming and yelling "Please get it off" while a trooper could be heard saying, "Get the dog off of him!" Several other officers could also be heard asking for first aid and medical attention for Rose.

What is known about Jadarrius Rose?

Rose is a 23-year-old African-American man from Ohio who was recently mauled by a police dog. He was reportedly driving a semi-tractor trailer driven and involved in a lengthy police chase over a missing mud flap. According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Rose's vehicle was missing a mud flap and failed to stop for an inspection on July 4. His pursuit with officials came to an end after authorities deployed ''stop sticks,'' a kind of tire deflation device, for a second time.

Rose halted his vehicle on a state highway about 40 miles south of Columbus and exited the truck with his hands up. However, Officer Ryan Speakman with the Circleville Police Department allegedly unleashed a K9 on Rose even though a State Police trooper told the local officer not to release the dog. Rose was then brutally mauled by the canine. A 40-minutes body camera footage showing the incident was recently released online.

During the attack, Rose reportedly told the officers "You just let the dog bite me." The officer allegedly told Rose that he just had to listen to his commands. Highway patrol officials said that Rose was "immediately" provided first aid after the attack and emergency medical personnel were also contacted to help in his aid. He was eventually taken into custody, Ohio State Highway Patrol confirmed.

'This case remains under investigation'

Speaking about the incident in an official statement, the highway patrol said, "As troopers were attempting to gain compliance by providing verbal commands to the suspect, Circleville Police Department deployed their canine, which resulted in the suspect being bitten by the canine." Authorities also mentioned that the K9 was unleashed by Officer Speakman.

However, officials in Circleville did not mention if Speakman was placed on leave in the wake of the incident. Public Safety Director Douglas Debord told local media that the city of Columbus is currently reviewing the incident. "This case remains under investigation and the Patrol is unable to provide any further details at this time," Highway Patrol Sgt Ryan E Purpura said in a statement.
