ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Dr Abeer N AbouYabis from the Emory Winship Cancer Institute has been placed on leave after sharing a pro-Hamas post on Facebook.

In the post, she wished “glory to all resistance fighters” and for “no peace on stolen land.”

AbouYabis' Facebook account is private and she was suspended from the institute when it was made aware of the post. The institute released a statement apologizing for the "pain these comments may have inflicted," per RoughDraft Atlanta.

What did Abeer N AbouYabis post on Facebook?

The assistant professor mentioned that she attended a pro-Palestinian rally outside the Israeli Embassy in Atlanta, alongside the Emory student group Justice in Palestine.

"I needed to say it LOUD,” she began, stating, "So I joined those brave, well organized, passionate students from different Atlanta colleges near the israeli embassy."

She added, "Thanks to Emory students for Justice in Palestine and all the other student bodies who helped me hang onto the last thread of my faith in humanity and hope for justice... one day One day!"

A poem followed, "They got walls, we got gliders / Glory to all resistance fighters / Palestine is our demand / No peace for stolen land / Not another nickel, not another dollar / We will pay for Israel slaughter / Not another nickel, not another dime / We will pay for Israel crime.”

AbouYabis has been placed on leave from her prestigious position since her post went up on Facebook, reports the New York Post.

Laura Diamond, a spokesperson for the institute, reportedly told the outlet, "We condemn such comments in the strongest possible terms and have immediately placed this individual on administrative leave pending an internal investigation."

She added, “As we navigate difficult conversations, our expectation is that all members of the Emory community continue to demonstrate empathy and treat each other with dignity and respect."

She also declared, "There is no place in our community for language and behavior based in hatred, that incites violence, and that is counter to the values that unite us as educators and health practitioners.”

According to RoughDraft Atlanta, Winship stated, "We are aware of antisemitic comments made on a private social media account by one of our physicians who is an assistant professor at the Emory University School of Medicine. We are deeply sorry for the pain these comments may have inflicted."

The institute's statement added, "Winship Cancer Institute and Emory Healthcare are firmly committed to providing unbiased and quality patient care and we condemn any language or actions that threaten or compromise that value. This individual has been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation takes place."

AbouYabis’ leave of absence was first reported by the nonpartisan group Stop Antisemitism on X, according to the Post.

A doctor from New York City, Dana Diab, has been fired over a pro-Hamas post.

Diab was an emergency room physician with Lenox Hill Hospital who shared a video of the Hamas attack of October 7 on her Instagram Stories.

According to a screenshot shared by Stop Antisemitism on X, she wrote, "Zionist settlers getting a taste of their own medicine.”

Northwell Health confirmed the dismissal of Dr Diab on October 17.
