Serafini, a former professional baseball pitcher with seven seasons in the majors, was arrested along with Scott. They were arrested early on a Friday morning in connection with the June 2021 murder of Robert Gary Spohr.

Spohr was found deceased, with a single gunshot wound, at a residence in North Lake Tahoe, according to the official statement from the sheriff's office.

The arrests of Serafini and Scott followed a thorough two-year investigation, ultimately resulting in their apprehension. Remarkably, these arrests occurred in vastly different locations - northwest of Reno and Las Vegas.

In an official statement, the sheriff's office emphasized, "After a lengthy two-year investigation involving Placer County Sheriff’s detectives and the District Attorney’s Office, 49-year-old Danny Serafini and 33-year-old Samantha Scott were arrested this morning in Nevada for the 2021 Homewood murder of 70-year-old Robert Gary Spohr and the attempted murder of 68-year-old Wendy Wood."

They expressed gratitude to various law enforcement agencies, including the US Marshal Service Reno Office, US Marshal’s Nevada Violent Offender Task Force (Las Vegas), Winnemucca Police Department, and the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office for their invaluable assistance in effecting these crucial arrests.
