Takeoff's mom Titania Davenport files $1M negligence lawsuit against Houston bowling alley where rapper was shot dead

HOUSTON, TEXAS: Takeoff, a member of the popular rap group Migos, tragically lost his life last year in a shooting incident at a Houston bowling alley. The rapper's mother has now filed a negligence lawsuit against the venue, seeking $1 million in damages.

The incident occurred during a private party where Takeoff and his fellow Migos rapper Quavo were present. While Quavo escaped unharmed, Takeoff was shot and succumbed to his injuries the following day.

No security arrangements were made during the event

In a petition submitted on Thursday, Titania Davenport claimed that 810 Billiards & Bowling's owners and managers "negligently failed to provide proper and adequate security" for an event on the evening of October 31, 2022, despite being aware that prominent celebrities, including her son, would be in attendance, People reported.

Davenport claims that the defendants, which include 810 Houston LLC, LVA4 Houston Greenstreet, Lionstone Partners LLC, Midway Companies, and Cushman & Wakefield, were informed in advance about the Halloween night event and knew it would require "extra security and would draw a large crowd, many of whom would be celebrities, which in itself presents unique and advance security considerations, none of which were taken," according to the petition, which was obtained by the publication.

Two groups began shooting at each other

"One group of attendees began verbally, physically and openly causing trouble… trying to intimidate Mr Ball and his group of friends, " the petition claims the events that unfolded towards the end of that night. Two groups as per the petition began shooting each other with Takeoff who was an "innocent bystander" getting shot.

'Ball sustained pre-death injuries'

"Mr Ball sustained pre-death injuries, conscious pain, and suffering, and ultimately became aware of his impending death," the petition says. "[He] exercised ordinary care and diligence and was a completely innocent victim free of any contribution to his death.”

The petition claims that because there was apparently no security screening upon admission, no after-hours controls or security measures, and no enforcement of regulations that forbade guns on the property, the defendants had a duty to keep him and his fellow participants safe and failed to do so.
