BROOKLYN, NEW YORK CITY: A 48-year-old man who has been suspected of fatally shooting his girlfriend in their home was arrested for her murder after a tense SWAT standoff and threatened to "shoot everyone" in the Brooklyn house, according to police. Peter Hibbert allegedly shot Jacqueline Wilson in the head, arm, torso, and leg at around 3.00 am inside their home on East 96th in Brownsville on Sunday, May 7.

According to a neighbor, Hibbert told Wilson's daughter, "I just shot your mother, and now I’m going to shoot everyone in the house." Authorities stated that the suspected gunman was caught after he hid in a crawl space under their home's garden after a two-hour tense standoff with SWAT, reported New York Post.

'I thought I was going to get shot'

On Sunday, a neighbor told the outlet that all the police aimed their guns at the family's home during the standoff. "I thought I was going to get shot," said the neighbor who called Wilson's daughter when he saw the police pointing their guns at the building. "I ask, ‘What’s going on in your house?! He says, 'Shhhhhh, I call you back.' They’d locked themselves in the bedroom with the baby," the witness said. The 29-year-old daughter and her boyfriend later revealed to the neighbor about the alleged shooter threatening to murder them all.

Following the incident, emergency medical responders transported Wilson from her home to Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. The resident said that Hibbert had been the slain woman's boyfriend for nearly two and a half years. According to cops, Hibbert is charged with a weapon possession rap in addition to murder charges.

'He didn’t talk much, he just followed her around everywhere'

In 2021, Hibbert was an alleged perpetrator of a domestic incident between him and Wilson to which the NYPD responded at the time. Neighbors said the woman had lived in the Brownville home for at least 15 years. "He was leaning on her. She bought him a car. She takes care of the household. He didn’t talk much, he just followed her around everywhere she go," said the witness.

A 62-year-old man named Linford Mckinzie who lived across the street said that the alleged gunman was from Jamaica and the victim was from St. Vincent and the Grenadines. Another neighbor, Earl, 47, who only gave revealed his first name stated that as he was coming back from McDonald's early Sunday morning, he heard Wilson and Hibbert arguing. "I hear a woman shouting, screaming loud at someone. I didn’t pay attention. I heard it before. This neighborhood can be rowdy. Then I heard the helicopter. I came out and see all the neighbors. … It’s crazy!", said Earl.
