NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: One teenager lost his life and another was left injured after they were stabbed on a street in New York City on Thanksgiving morning, the New York Police Department said.
The authorities noted in a statement that a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man had gotten into an argument with another group and were attacked in front of 96 Lafayette St in Chinatown at around 1:50 am.
According to the New York Post, sources close to law enforcement reported that the incident occurred outside an axe-throwing bar named Live Axe.
The authorities did not specify how the altercation between the two groups began, and there was no confirmation that the teens were inside the bar.
Where were the victims stabbed?
The statement from the police mentioned that both individuals were stabbed in the torso, but the type of weapon used was not specified.
Sources informed the outlet that the sharp object used in the stabbing was not an axe. The 17-year-old, who was not identified, was reported to be in critical condition and was transported by ambulance to the hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries, according to WABC-TV.
Police stated that the identification of the deceased individual is "pending proper family notification."
Second victim is in stable condition following the stabbing incident
The 19-year-old man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was stabbed and transported to Bellevue Hospital. He is reported to be in stable condition, as per information from the police provided to the outlet.
WPIX reported that the man sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Post mentioned that the two victims stabbed were brothers.
Following the incident, the police cordoned off the area with crime scene tape, and several officers were observed walking around the vicinity, collecting evidence, as shown in video footage obtained by WABC-TV.
Numerous individuals were detained by law enforcement; however, as reported by WABC-TV and WPIX, no arrests were made. The motives for the stabbing have not been reported.
Police said that the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.

Investigators believed that the individual from Long Island, New York, was killed by his roommate, 24-year-old Syed Hussain-Kazi.
Kazi was taken into custody on November 16 after an extensive search, as he fled the shared residence after the attack, reported NBC News.
Hawkin was reportedly stabbed in the kitchen and succumbed to his injuries later at the hospital where he was being treated, according to Humberside Police.
Detective Chief Inspector Jayne Goodens said in a statement, "This is thought to be an isolated incident between two people, believed to be known to each other, that took place inside a property. We do not believe there to be any wider risk to the public.”
