LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After two years, the fifth edition of Pogchamps is returning, and it has been revealed that the $100,000 prize pool will be contested by the world's best broadcasters and chess players. In the 2021 Pogchamps championship, some of the greatest names in the streaming industry competed in chess matches for a $100,000 prize fund.
The lineup for the fifth edition has finally been revealed. A total of 16 streamers will compete against one another throughout the two-week event, which runs from July 25 to August 18. And for the first time, Ludwig's Mogul Moves and Offbrand will collaborate with Chess.com to plan the event.
Who is participating in Pogchamps 5?
The top two contestants in the Pogchamps 5 will compete in an over-the-board duel in a live, in-person final on August 18 in Los Angeles.
Some big names to take part in the tournament are CDawgVA, Daily Dose of Internet, Distortion2, Frank-is-heres, Fuslie, Ghastly, I did a thing, Jarvis, Jinnytty, Papaplatte, QTCinderella, Squeex, Sykkuno, Tyler1, Wirtual and xQc.
The co-hosts and commentary team consists of Ludwig, Hikaru Nakamura, Robert Hess, Daniel Naroditsky, Aman Hambleton, Alexandra Botez, Andrea Botez, Danny Rensch, Levy Rozman, Anna Rudolf and James Canty III.
Ludwig’s Mogul Moves
The Mogul Chessboxing Championship, which Ludwig won in December 2022, was hugely popular with streamers. The event not only surpassed his own watching records, but also became the most-watched chessboxing event ever thanks to its massive production staff, participating chess players and legendary content providers.
Ludwig had previously mentioned that it cost about $1.5M to put together the event. Mogul Moves event director Aiden, however, disclosed that the precise amount was $1.6M and despite the excitement around the Mogul Chessboxing Championship, the event failed to earn a profit on an episode of 'The Yard'.
