Why did Lionsgate hire Mulvaney?

A number of reports claim the movie adaptation of Judy Blume's classic book 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret' was a box office failure, which is why the entertainment company recruited the TikTok star for paid publicity. The book was released in 1970. Even though the Lionsgate movie has a stellar cast, it seems to be struggling at the box office. Christian Toto, a writer, film reviewer, and podcaster who has won awards and has more than 20 years of experience covering Hollywood, stated on Monday that the movie "earned just $16 million after three weeks of release, and the drama shed more than 900 screens over the weekend."

According to reports, the film's budget is $30 million, Fox News reported. Hollywood In Toto stated that "Lionsgate is bringing out a last-minute paid partnership to draw attention to the film."

The interview with Blume was posted on TikTok by Mulvaney's official channel with a notation indicating it is a "paid partnership". "Chatting with one of my heroes, Judy Blume!! Get tickets and take your mom, grandma, or the mother figure in your life to see Are You There God? #ItsMeMargaret this Mother’s Day weekend. It’s the iconic story we all love finally on the big screen! #lionsgatepartner," the channel wrote.

Mulvaney interviewed Blume

Mulvaney and the author discussed the background of the original book and the process of turning it into a motion picture. She also expressed worry about "book bans" and freedom of speech. "What I am saying now is, having lived through the '80s with the book banning, what's going on now is scarier and much worse," The teen novels 'Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret' and 'Deenie' are the author's most well-known works. The 85-year-old said she wanted to express sympathy for Rowling since she "has been harassed online."

'That's because it's not doing well. It certainly won't after this'

Mulvaney's hire by Lionsgate has caused a rush of criticism for the trans influencer on the internet. A user tweeted, "That's because it's not doing well. It certainly won't after this." Another user trolled, "Are you there God?” Because I hope you aren’t watching."

"What is the obsession with people wanting this person to promote their product?" a user asked. "You would think that they would have learned from the Bud Light fiasco."

"Boycott this Movie. It’s about a young girl starting her menstrual cycle. Dylan Mulvaney knows nothing about that," a user remarked. "@Lionsgate

⁩ obviously you did not see what happened to Bud Light partnership bombed, but now a major movie studio has Dylan Mulvaney promoting new teen film," said another user.
