LATAH COUNTY, IDAHO: Bryan Kohberger, the criminology student charged with the murders of four University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, Xana Kernodle, Madison Mogen, and Kaylee Goncalves, is reportedly receiving handwritten love letters with “hearts and stars” in jail. Kohberger, who is being held in the Latah County Jail in Moscow, Idaho, and awaits a preliminary hearing which is scheduled for June 26, 2023, has got more than two dozen such letters.

Talking about it, an employee at the jail, who has regular contact with Kohberger, anonymously told The Messenger, "He gets these letters a couple times a week. It’s disturbing." "They’re usually handwritten with hearts and stars. Colored envelopes,” the jail employee said as he described the letters that the 28-year-old suspect has been getting from his female fans, who believe he is not at fault and is innocent. “Everyone in the jail talks about how weird it is," the employee added.

'My love interest … is named Bryan'

Prior to this, a woman named Brittney J Hislope, who is a single mother from Kentucky, had been writing to Kohberger. She wrote, as per New York Post, "My love interest … is named Bryan and is accused of murder, and I just wish to connect with him above anyone else.” In one of her Facebook posts, she wrote, "When it comes to the letters I write Bryan, I know that it's likely that the first ones he receives will maybe not be as well thought out as some of the next ones, although in all the ones I've already sent, even if they aren't perfectly ideal to me, they'll contain some parts that I'll feel glad that I communicated, and all parts will be from a place of honesty. I sent him a picture of me along with some other pictures, where I had messed up on my eye makeup."

'There’s something about a dangerous man that appeals to some women'

Psychotherapist Robi Ludwig said during an appearance on NewsNation’s 'Banfield', "There’s something about a dangerous man that can be appealing to some women." Ludwig added by saying there’s a “seductiveness” that comes with a man in prison. “They can be very charming. The advantage of pursuing somebody who’s behind bars is you don’t have to deal with them in real life. They can’t frustrate you," Ludwig explained.

Kohberger faces four counts of murder

Kohberger, who graduated from DeSales University in Pennsylvania in May 2022 with a master of arts in criminal justice and was a PhD student in the Department of Criminal Justice and Criminology at Washington State University, was arrested on December 30, 2022, by the FBI and Pennsylvania State Police. He was ordered to be held without bail and faces four counts of first-degree murder for the brutal stabbings. He has not yet entered a plea and is awaiting a preliminary hearing in late June.
