Helicopter crashes onto busy Madrid motorway and hits car
A helicopter crashed into a car on a busy Spanish motorway, leaving three people injured. The aircraft, believed to be participating in an aviation fair, smashed into the Madrid ring road on Friday morning. Dramatic images from the scene in Spain show the orange wreckage of the helicopter strewn across the motorway as emergency service workers dealt with the disaster. One passenger was able to leave the smash on foot while the other was rescued from the remains of the helicopter by firefighters. The driver of the car was also injured, according to fire services. One of the crash survivors had a light head injury and another appeared to have a broken femur. The third suffered light injuries, the fire service said. Traffic has been halted in both directions so emergency services can work at the scene. The accident is believed to have been caused by heavy wind that is thought to have destabilised the helicopter. Aviation news website On The Wings of Aviation reported: “The Enstrom 280FX Shark helicopter with registration F-HPUX that was participating in the European Rotors fair that was taking place in Ifema has crashed on the M40 in Madrid shortly after taking off.” Read More Madrid helicopter debris investigated by emergency workers after highway crash Four migrants who were pushed out of a boat die just yards from Spain's southern coast Police arrest 3 in connection with shooting of far-right Spanish politician

Former prosecutor says ex-Trump aide will be top witness in classified documents case
Former prosecutor says ex-Trump aide will be top witness in classified documents case
Former Donald Trump aide Molly Michael will be one of the most important witnesses in the classified documents case, a former prosecutor has said. Ex-Georgia prosecutor Chris Timmons appeared on CNN on Tuesday night, saying that Ms Michael has got “damning information” since Mr Trump allegedly told her to lie to the authorities. “This is a smoking gun,” Mr Timmons said. Ms Michael worked with Mr Trump both in the White House and then at his Florida private club Mar-a-Lago. It was reported on Tuesday that Mr Trump gave instructions when he came to understand that the authorities were going to interview Ms Michael about the boxes containing classified documents that he kept at his Sunshine State residence after leaving office. “You don’t know anything about the boxes,” Mr Trump told Ms Michael, according to reporting from ABC News and The New York Times. Mr Timmons told CNN that there is a point in every case and trial when it’s won or lost. If Mr Trump chooses to take the stand, that will probably be the pivotal point, he said. But if Mr Trump is not a witness in the trial, Ms Michael will be the “key witness,” Mr Timmons said, adding that her testimony will likely decide “whether the former president is convicted”. Mr Timmons was asked if Mr Trump’s direction that “you don’t know anything about the boxes” would affect the case. “Absolutely,” he said. “I think it’s got three possibilities of coming in. One, the least likely is a re-indictment including these additional predicate acts and further into the conspiracy. I don’t think it fits quite that neatly.” “Second, it could be brought in and there’d have to be a motion filed under what’s referred to as similar acts, that it’s close to or even brought in as maybe kind of a distant part of the RICO scheme,” he added. “The third one – I think the former president is going to take the opportunity to testify in the Georgia case. I really do. A number of people think that he’s not going to. I think he’s not going to miss that opportunity to be on every television in the entire world,” Mr Timmons said. “And if he does testify, then at that point it comes as impeachment evidence and it shows that he lacks credibility and is dishonest.” In the Florida case, Mr Trump faces 32 counts of willful retention of national secrets, six counts of obstruction of justice, and two counts of making false statements. In Georgia, he faces one count of violating the Georgia Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act (RICO), three counts of soliciting violation of oath by a public officer, and a litany of further charges. Scientists make 'shocking' discovery on Saturn's moon that could reveal signs of life
Scientists make 'shocking' discovery on Saturn's moon that could reveal signs of life
Dramatic explosions on the surface of one of Saturn's moons have been observed, and it could change the way scientists approach the search for life in the universe. Saturn's ice-covered moon Enceladus has been the subject of attention from astronomers for decades after plumes of water vapor were observed erupting from its surface 20 years ago by the Cassini spacecraft. Now, the biggest plume yet has been spotted by the James Webb Space Telescope and it measures a massive 10,000 kilometers in length. Incredibly, the plume emitting from the geyser on the surface measures 20 times the size of the moon itself, and it indicates that there’s more to Enceladus than previously thought. Sign up to our free Indy100 weekly newsletter Planetary scientist Geronimo Villanueva of NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center said: "When I was looking at the data, at first, I was thinking I had to be wrong, it was just so shocking to map a plume more than 20 times the diameter of the moon. "The plume extends far beyond what we could have imagined." Instead of solid ice, the size of the plume shows us that there’s a liquid ocean under the surface. It’s kept warm enough to avoid freezing due to the movement that results from the gravitational pull of Saturn. As ever, the existence of liquid water suggests that there’s the possibility of life existing there, and it's encouraging news for authors of the study accepted in Nature Astronomy. "The orbit of Enceladus around Saturn is relatively quick, just 33 hours. As it whips around Saturn, the moon and its jets are basically spitting off water, leaving a halo, almost like a donut, in its wake," Villanueva said. "In the Webb observations, not only was the plume huge, but there was just water absolutely everywhere." It remains one of the most interesting bodies being studied in the solar system, as geochemist Christopher Glein of the Southwest Research Institute. “Enceladus is one of the most dynamic objects in the Solar System and is a prime target in humanity's search for life beyond Earth," geochemist Christopher Glein of the Southwest Research Institute said. "In the years since NASA's Cassini spacecraft first looked at Enceladus, we never cease to be amazed by what we find is happening on this extraordinary moon." Have your say in our news democracy.
