WALTERBORO, SOUTH CAROLINA: Buster Murdaugh, the son of convicted murderer Alex Murdaugh, apparently branded him a psychopath despite insisting that he is not the killer of his mother and brother.

In his first public statements since his father’s conviction, the 26-year-old Buster hinted that the real killer of Maggie Murdaugh, 52, and Paul Murdaugh, 22, is still on the loose and he “absolutely” worries for his safety.

“I do not think that he could be affiliated with endangering my mother and brother,” Buster stated in the Fox Nation documentary ‘The Fall of the House of Murdaugh’, which aired on August 31.

“We have been here for a while now and that’s been my stance,” he further told host Martha MacCallum. Buster then said he is afraid of the real killer, who he believes is still at large.

“I think I set myself up to be safe but yes, when I go to bed at night, I have a fear that there is somebody that is still out there,” he added.

Buster Murdaugh says he isn't a manipulator like father Alex

When MacCallum asked if the definition of a psychopath matches his father, Buster didn’t flinch before saying not as a 'whole'.

“I’m not prepared to sit here and say that it encompasses him as a whole, but I certainly think there are characteristics where you look at the manipulation and the lies and the carrying out of that much, and I think that’s a fair assessment,” he added, according to Daily Mail.

Further in the interview, Buster denied being anything like his convicted father, telling MacCallum, “I do not worry, because I am not a thief. I am not a liar. I’m not a manipulator.”

However, he admitted that he is “quite proud” of sharing some of Alex’s “more admirable traits.”

Buster Murdaugh on boat crash that killed Mallory Beach

At one point in the docu-series, Buster also opened up about the boat crash that claimed the life of 19-year-old Mallory Beach.

As per reports, Buster’s younger brother Paul was accused of driving and crashing the vessel that launched Beach into the water and killed her in February 2019.

Nearly five years after the incident, a judge approved a settlement between the family of Mallory Beach and the estate of Maggie Murdaugh in January 2023.

Later, on July 16, 2023, the family of Mallory Beach reached a $15 million deal to settle a lawsuit against a convenience store chain that sold Paul Murdaugh alcohol while underage.

It's suspected that Paul, 19, used Buster's ID to buy alcohol before the collision. Reflecting on the case, Buster asserted that his family was 'supportive' of his brother during the entire process.

"Our family stayed very supportive of Paul through the whole process and stayed very much tight-knit of a unit to get through it together," he said.

However, he noted that the case took a toll on his mother, who believed that she was being 'looked at differently' during the investigation.

"When the boat crash happened, my mom especially had a tough time distancing herself from all the articles. I think it had a severe toll on her. And I think even just doing a certain task, like running an errand into Hampton to go to the grocery store, I think she might've felt like she was getting unnecessary looks," Buster said.
