Betsy Branter Smith: National Police Association applauds Zach Bryan for apologizing after arrest

CRAIG COUNTY, OKLAHOMA: Retired Sgt Betsy Branter Smith, a spokesperson for The National Police Association, applauded the Country singer Zack Bryan’s apology following his DUI arrest.

The ‘Heading South’ singer found himself on the other side of the law when he got involved in an altercation with law enforcement on Thursday, September 7.

However, later, he apologized through an Instagram video. His apology was hailed by the police, including Smith.

She told TMZ, “This is a very frustrated young man and he had some inappropriate things to say, but he complied with the officers.”

Appreciating his gesture, she said, “He didn’t try to fight them or attack them. He mouthed off. And he apologized.”

What did Zach Bryan do?

Following the altercation, Bryan was booked into Craig County Jail on an obstruction of investigation charge, per the New York Post.

The singer revealed the incident in the same apology video where he said that one of his employees was questioned by the police while they were on their way to Boston, due to which he also had to wait.

However, when he realized it was taking time, he went out to investigate. The officers repeatedly asked him to return to the car, but he did not listen.

He recounted then, “And like a dumbass, I was like, ‘Take me to f*****g jail? What do you mean?’ So I get too lippy with him, he brings me over to his car, and I just didn’t help my situation at all.”

He continued, “I felt like a child, it was ridiculous and immature. I just pray everyone knows I don’t think I’m above the law. I was just being disrespectful and I shouldn’t have been. It was my mistake,” per the New York Post.

He also revealed that at that moment his “emotions got the best” of him as videos showed him hurling insults at the cops.

He was later booked in the Craig County jail but was released soon after.
